The water level in the Yamuna river has risen higher over the last week than it has in the last 45 years. The results have been catastrophic for the thousands of very poor families living near the river. Thousands have been evacuated because of the flooding and are currently living on the roads. Over 2000 families are now living on the road as they have nowhere else to go. They have also lost most of their meagre belongings in the flood.
Family Vision Foundation is distributing relief to the victims at Yamuna Khadar, the stretch between Akshardham and Kalindi Kunj. We have been distributing essential food items like rice, dal, biscuits, fruit buns, drinking water and tarpaulins to the survivors. In the days to come we will continue to distribute relief materials and also help to re-set up three makeshift schools for the children of Yamuna Khadar that are currently under water.
